My mission is to positively impact the lives of each student who enters my class and to strive to ensure that each one has the literacy skills necessary to succeed in high school.
I am very glad to be working with you and your child this school year! I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Georgia. I also have a Master's Degree in Education focusing on reading and mathematics from Walden University. I am certified to teach music grades PK-12, early childhood education grades PK-5, English in grades 6-12, Middle School Social Science, and I have my gifted endorsement. I have been teaching for 18 years. In my free time, I absolutely LOVE to read and listen to music. Also, I am a huge Atlanta United FC fan!
I have high expectations for all of my students both academically and behaviorally. I strive to create a love of learning in all of my students and to meet each student's needs to the best of my ability. There is a substantial amount of research that demonstrates the value of parents and teachers working together in educating our young people. Everyone benefits when teachers and parents work together. Studies show, students have a better attitude toward school, behavior is better, and of course academic achievement is higher.
So, what can you do as the parent? Regular communication is the number one thing parents can do to help build a successful partnership with their child's teachers. Help your child with their homework and projects, and monitor that the work has been completed successfully. Be involved at the school as much as you are able. Lastly, talk to your child. Ask them questions about what they are learning in school, and don't settle for the "nothing" answer.
